Is there a keyboard shortcut to open the ddg search box? I saw in the manifest that you attempted to reserve 'd' in the address bar, but as near as I can tell that functionality does not work as of now (Opera 15). The extension is great, but I'm hoping to have access to it without reaching for my mouse.

Hi @theprawn, thanks for asking.

Let me tell you that I would very much like to add one but I haven't find out the API which would allow us to do that.

I'll try to see if something could be done on this front.

@theprawn A bit further explanation:

Chrome has the chrome.commands API (http://developer.chrome.com/extensions/commands.html) which does what we'd like to do here.

The commands API is not available in Opera 15 right now, but we have it planned in the upcoming versions. I'll keep you posted on this.

Ironically, I used to use Opera FOR its superior keyboard configuration options... now I can't even make my favorite search engine my default.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

@theprawn We've heard that they are preparing something which will allow you to set DuckDuckGo as default for Opera 17 so I guess we'll have to wait for a while.

Thanks for reporting the issue!

Opera is still not ready for default search angine as DDG but now available to use shortcut for last stable, next and dev. channel.

You can do it as;

Go to extensins page (Ctrl+Shift+E)
Jump the end of the page (right bottom )
Press "Extension Shortcuts" button
Arrange your shurtcut for DDG

That's it.

@zahek thanks for the update.

I was long waiting for the time when keyboard hotkeys will become available in opera and it seems that time came now.

To keep extensions consistent across browsers we decided to go with Alt+G as the hotkey.

I will send the updated extension to the store shortly.

Thanks.

P.S: ALT+G is open FindPage as deafult in Opera.

BTW, do you think to translate extension to other languages?

Opera 25: If you've installed the DDG extension simply right-click in the main search bar and choose Edit Search Engines from the popup. Then just choose DDG as the default. Piece of cake, or, bowl of duck soup.
The same functionality is in Preferences as well of course.

@bluetortilla thanks for letting us know. I am not sure, however, if that does anything with Keyboard shortcuts.

The manifest currently has a commands section as described in the documentation (https://dev.opera.com/extensions/tut_commands.html) so if no one is against it I will just close this issue.

Thanks all for participating on this!
