Less file @import problems with SimpLESS #57

I also posted this on the Simpless Git because I don't know if it's a problem with the software or not written correctly in bones, but either way it does not seem to work out of the box, so it's probably worth a mention.

Simpless fails with the three files that declare an @import, ie.less, style.less and base.less.

When changing the less files from " quotes to ' quotes it works.

Thanks

Interesting. Maybe it's a Simpless thing because it compiles ok here using Lessapp and Codekit. Keep me posted if they say anything though.

I realised this is probably in the wrong place because I am using the responsive version. I cannot get Simpless to play nicely with Bones' Less files at all. I'm new to LESS so maybe I'm doing it wrong but even passing it the original files unaltered and then uploading the resulting CSS files to the server, the layout appears broken.

It will display as if for a small 320px device for every screen size, stacking the elements on top of each other. If I had a mac I could test the other apps suggested for parsing the LESS but unfortunately I don't.

Another thing that strikes me is that the CSS files in the library folder are not minified at all. I really do want to use LESS and I love the concept of it and the way you have done it with bones but I'll be damned if I can get it to work for me. Am I the only one experiencing this with Simpless?

What error messages, if any, are you seeing? I believe minification is an option you can set.

Once I removed the double quotes from the @import declarations (in
base.less, ie.less and style.less) and replaced them with single quotes
SimpLESS would process the files without problem.

I added these files to SimpLESS: login.less, mixins.less, normalize.less,
base.less, style.less and ie.less.

When I take the resulting CSS files and upload them to the server, the
result is here:

I'm no LESS expert so I don't know if this is me doing it wrong with
SimpLESS or not, but these are unaltered LESS files as downloaded from the
repository so I wouldn't have expected this result.

Yea, that's odd. It looks like it's importing 481up, but not anything higher. 768up is where the meat of the styles are and that's what it's missing.

I would say let's see what the SimpLESS guys say. I commented over on the issue there:

If you're comfortable with the command line, you can try this method:
http://blog.dotsmart.net/2010/11/26/running-the-less-js-command-line-compiler-on-windows/

I can compile fine using CodeKit on OSX, but don't have a windows machine to test.

I have noticed the same issue using both SimpLESS and WinLess.

I posted another issue over on the responsive Git here https://github.com/eddiemachado/bones-responsive/issues/25

I used crunchless and got slightly different issues. I really want to use Less, but it seems that it's just too much of a pain just now. And the Bones code, ethos and commenting is so good I really want to be able to use it!

any word on the issues with this?

I've just tested the latest master with WinLess and everything seems to be working perfect.

yea, I think adding .less to all imported files fixes the issue with WinLESS
