I'm on Adium 1.5 (3/14/12 release) on OS X 10.7.3, with the current version of
the plugin, released in February.
Everything was working fine until I recently was prompted to update Skype to
the current version, 5.7.0.1037.
Since this new update to Skype, not all messages I receive on Skype come
through to Adium. It seems like every second or third message come through, but
I haven't been able to pin it down exactly.
I'm not really sure what else I can include that can help with this, so let me
know and I'll be happy to try my best.

I can confirm the same thing for the most recent plugin while running Pidgin

Seems that there is no rhyme or reason to which messages come through and which
ones don't

I'm not really sure how to assist in getting this resolved, as I'm a user and

Skype Win64 5.9.59.115. Plugin release 2011-04-7. Pidgin 2.10.3 (going to
update to 2.10.4 but there's nothing in the changelog to suggest a fix).

Same behaviour - messages are randomly not appearing in the Pidgin chat window
or log. Interestingly, Pidgin does give me an audio notification of a new

Seems to only be with my most recently added contact, but not confirmed.

Hi all, thanks for the bug reports.

Unfortunately recent versions of Skype aren't sending through all their
messages to Pidgin (you can verify this by looking in the debug log in the
Help->Debug Window)

I've personally gone back to using older versions of Skype as they use less
memory and are more reliable.

Double unfortunately, I don't see any way to fix this issue as the problem is
with Skype itself. I would suggest you all lodge bugs with Skype so that they
can hopefully fix this in a newer version, and in the meantime run an older
version of Skype.

On Windows I'm using Skype 3.6 quite successfully, but I'd recommend going back
to 5.8 on OSX if you need the latest codecs etc. That said, the plugin works
with very old versions of Skype which all have less memory usage, so feel free
to experiment :)

Can confirm this for Pidgin (2.10.2) on Linux (debian wheezy). I noticed this
after update to latest Skype version 4.0. The missed messages are marked as
missed events in Skype client (are flagged). This did not occur with older
Skype versions where flagged were only non-message type events (missed calls
and birthdays).

 I have just downloaded an update to Skype (5.10.0.115) and as I am still experiencing the issue, I will happily report the bug to Skype - however I am not a terribly technical person and am not aware of where/how to report the bug or how best to describe it.

 Can anyone provide some direction in this respect? Thanks!

Just a thought for a workaround (having looked at the Pidgin debug log). Is
there a way to get the Skype chat log through the Skype API? If so, a
workaround for the Skype bug might be:

1. Receive notification of a message from Skype (this always seems to happen);
2. Notice it has no BODY (this seems to be the bug);
3. Request the chat log from Skype;
4. Scan through backwards for messages that haven't made it to Pidgin/Adium.

Looking to try implementing this workaround myself, but having trouble building
on Win32/Win64. The README doesn't specify the build environment that's needed
(it appears to be out of date, referring to Makefile.mingw among other things).

BTW, http://eion.robbmob.com/ appears to be down, so can't grab the
libskype.zip that's referred to in the readme.

It doesn't fix the issue completely. I still miss the first message if the

Meant to say it is NOT working (or "still persisting"). Anyway, I found a
workaround. If you and the person you want to IM with have Windows Live (aka
MSN Messenger) accounts, you can use them to login to outlook.com, and use
People - Manage - "Invite on Messenger", and People - Manager - "View
Invitations" to accept them into the old pre-skype messenger format. At that
point Pidgin (or other IM apps) can see them without Skype.

It might seem strange, but now I do NOT experience this bug anymore, even
though I was "forced" to upgrade to newer (linux) Skype version (4.2.0.13).

I have no idea what changed, but I am not, as of now, having problems with
missed messages, like I had before. If you have any ideas as to what to "test"
to identify the cause or solution to the issue, it seems that I now have a
"working setup".

Jan

Interestingly, 4.2.0.13 indeed has worked all day for me so far (no messages
disappearing). The only "annoying" think would be that the messages remain
"unread" in Skype, but that's unrelated to this ticket. So possibly it can be
closed as "outofdate". Will definitely let know if I do encounter issues.
