I'm curious why you want this functionality? If you're already looking at the post, why does it matter how many boosts/favs it has? |
|
I generally find the info handy to see how much traction on the platform a post has gotten, especially if it's a PSA type of post, but as I mentioned above I find the numbers distracting when scrolling the timeline, (perhaps I'm alone in thinking this is needed, but just wanted to share this idea here with hopes of other people finding it useful as well) Edit: I'm gonna run a 3 day poll to see how many people would prefer it this way, gonna post the results once it's done :) |

My poll has ended, and here are the results: My limited reach only allowed me to get 62 responses, but I'm genuinely (and positively) surprised how many of them voted in favor of the option that I suggested. Link to the poll, some people have shared interesting thoughts on this in the replies: https://tech.lgbt/@endali/109768248658465558 |

Another thing of note I noticed recently and thought I'd bring up - the way I've described it (numbers hidden on timeline, shown on post view) in addition to being used in the standard webview, is also used in the official app and it's popular forks (Megalodon for example), and Tusky as well from what I've seen. I guess in this case this could be viewed as a parity feature? |

yeah I like this in the default web app too. |

Description of problem:
The way the default mastodon web view works (as well as some mobile apps (Megalodon for instance)) when it comes to showing the boost/favorite count on a post is is hidden on the timeline view, but is shown once the post is clicked on and expanded:
Timeline view:

Post view:
I feel like this is a very good compromise between hiding it completely and showing it at all times on the timeline. Generally speaking, I found that I do prefer having the count hidden while scrolling the timeline, so that the Big Numbers™ won't make my eyes focus on the posts with more interactions, but I like being able to view that data in some way if I want to.
