Moving this over to here from here - atom/language-html#30 - as expected behaviour when having the language liquid plugin (https://atom.io/packages/language-liquid) applied would be that emmet should work. It's not the case unless adding 'liquid' to the language HTML plugin as mentioned - https://atom.io/packages/language-liquid - but it's suggested there's something in the emmet-atom plugin that should be doing this.

Would love support for this. Happy to submit a pull request if I'm pointed in the right direction—I'm not too familiar with Atom packages.

Emmet expands abbreviations everywhere with Shift+Ctrl+E.

In order to make it work with Tab key, try to extend Emmet with liquid syntax, e.g. in your custom snippets.json add the following:

"liquid": {
    "extends": "html"
}

See http://docs.emmet.io/customization/

@sergeche how will the plugin know what is a liquid file?

Also, where do I add this snippets.json file? Can I make it work with language-nunjucks too?

Just pushed v2.3.2 where you can easily add Tab expander for custom syntaxes: https://github.com/emmetio/emmet-atom#tab-key
