The JVM option -XX:+DoEscapeAnalysis, in the script bin/server is not recognized by the OpenJDK 7 VM running on Ubuntu 11.10 x86:

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.0) (7~b147-2.0-0ubuntu0.11.10.1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 21.0-b17, mixed mode, sharing)

Unrecognized VM option 'DoEscapeAnalysis'

Even it is possible to overwrite the jvm args using the ENSIME_JVM_ARGS variable, I suggest not to include this option by default.

Obviously, you don't have a "server-class" machine. ;)

-XX:+DoEscapeAnalysis is only available with a server VM. See also #196 (sort of a duplicate).

I also vote for removing that option again, or try to detect wether the current JVM supports that option before using it...
