Gipety For Hacker-News Threads

Welcome to the Gipety project! This repository hosts the audio podcast discussions of Hacker News threads, which are featured on news.gipety.com.

We rely on community contributions to create and upload these podcast files. Follow this guide to get involved!

How You Can Contribute

We encourage everyone to participate in creating podcast episodes from Hacker News threads. By following the steps below, you can help expand our collection of audio discussions.

Requirements

• A Google account with access to notebookLM
• Basic knowledge of GitHub and an account for uploading files
• An interest in Hacker News threads!

Step 1: Generate the Audio File Using notebookLM

1. Open Google notebookLM: https://notebooklm.google.com/.
2. Select the Hacker News Thread: Choose a thread that you think would be interesting as a podcast discussion.
3. Create the Audio:
   • Use notebookLM to generate the audio file of the discussion. You can create a summary or read through the most interesting points in the thread.
   • Export or download the audio file.

Step 2: Upload the Audio File to GitHub

1. Fork this Repository: Click the "Fork" button on the top right to create your own copy of this repository.
2. Create a New Folder: In your fork, create a new folder under the /hn-items directory using the id of the hacker news article as the name:

For example: /hn-items/41793485

3. Upload the Audio File: Name the file 'podcast-audio.wav' and upload it into the new folder you created.

For example: /hn-items/41793485/podcast-audio.wav

Step 3: Submit a Pull Request (PR)

Once your changes are ready, submit a pull request to this repository. We will review it and merge it into the main branch.

Step 4: There is no step 4!!

We will take care of creating the related endpoint on gipety.com and linking it to your audio.

If you have any questions or run into issues, feel free to open a GitHub issue in this repository, or reach out to us via the Gipety community forum.

If you are unable to submit a file for any reason you can also open GitHub issue requesting that we create one for you for a particular HN thread.

Of course we would like to automate this whole process so if you know of any API we could use please let us know.
