+
Before you get started...

+
Please update your copy of the application to the latest version. To do so, launch the application and click on Check for Updates in the the application menu.

+
+
Step 1: Access the translator menu

+
Launch the application and click on the Help menu. Hold down the Option (alt) key on your keyboard to reveal additional options in this menu. Select Translate .

+
The Translator window will open.

+
Step 2: Select your language

+
The drop down menu in the bottom left corner provides a list of two-letter country codes for the languages that are already partially translated.

+
If your language appears in this list, select it from the drop down. If not, this means you are the first translator for this language and will be translating the english version on your computer. In this case, select "en" from the drop down.

+
+
Step 3: View the translation files

+
On the left hand side of the translator window are a list of files to translate. Each file contains words and phrases that appear throughout the software. The number of words left to translate appears next to each file name. Your job is to update these files to contain the proper translations using the editor on the right as described in step 4.

+
+
Step 4: Editing the translation files

+
Once you have selected a translation file, you will see a series of phrases that look like an equation.

+
On the left side of the equal sign is the english version of the word/phrase/sentence to be translated. You will not edit this. To the right of the equal sign, is where the translated version will go. All untranslated words will appear in red. You must edit the red text on the right and replace the english text with the translated equivalent in your language. Here is an example:

+
"This sentence needs to be translated" = "My translation goes here"

+
You will also notice a comment above each translation that looks like this:

+
/* No comment provided by the engineer */

+
This is where the engineers will put any hints or tips regarding the translation if needed. Most of the time, no further explanation is required, so you will see the above text.

+
Occasionally, you may see a strange symbol such as %@ during the middle of a sentence as in the following example:

+
/* This will read: "A wonderful application" */
+"A %@ application" = "A %@ application"

+
In this case, the %@ symbol represents a missing word/ number/phrase that will be inserted later. The comment should explain what the missing word will say. Please translate the sentence as if the missing words were there, and be sure to place the %@ symbol in the appropriate spot. So for instance if the translation involves a different word ordering, such as "An application that is wonderful", then your translation would like the following:

+
/* This will read: "A wonderful application" */
+"A %@ application" = "An application that is %@"

+
Note: If you are unclear from the comment on how to translate the statement, or have any questions, please email .

+
What if the translation is the same?

+
Sometimes a word is the same in multiple languages. When this is the case, you can add a comment above the translation to indicate that the translation is complete. It must be in the following format:

+
/* [your comment here] == */
+/* This will read: "A fresh approach to finance" */
+"A %@ approach to finance" = "A approach %@ to finance"

+
Doing so will remove this word from the untranslated count. If it does not, check for a typo.

+
+
Step 5: Testing out your translation

+
After editing the translation files, you may wish to see your changes in action throughout the application. Simply quit and re- launch the application. Use the application as you normally would, and you will see your changes. When you are ready to return to editing, simply repeat steps 1-3 above.

+
Note: Your computer’s language settings must be set to the translation language in order for you to see your changes in the application. To change your settings, go to your System Preferences and under Language & Text, change your settings to the translation language.

+
+
Step 6: Submit your translation!

+
When you have finished editing all the translation files, you are ready to submit your results to our team. To do so, simply click on the Package for Submission button on the Translator screen.

+
You will be prompted to choose a save location for your translation package. Select the desired location and click Save.

+
Attach your packaged translation files and email and include the language you have translated with a subject such as Application Translation to Spanish.

+
Thank You!
