So your script works wonderfully, even for other deb based distros, unless the kernel version on the system is at or above version 4.5 as the bytmax98090 firmware was removed in version 4.5. A simple warning against updating the kernel and possibly a guide to rebuilding the kernel to include bytmax98090 firmware or downgrading to 4.1 kernel would make this the definitive script for Swanky Linux Installs.

That's an excellent suggestion Zamubafoo, I think a guide to rebuilding the kernel to include bytmax98090 firmware is probably the best course of action since I don't like the idea of restricting users ability to move to newer kernels.
It's something I need to learn/work on. I'll have a look when I get time but time is very limited at the moment.
BTW: apologies for taking so long to respond to this comment, it was an oversight on my part to track issues on this repo.

I try to avoid rebuilding kernels, but can confirm that Alberto Aguirre's bytmax98090-enabled kernel (PPA: https://launchpad.net/~albaguirre/+archive/ubuntu/linux-bytmax98090) fixes this*. Perhaps this (or something like it) could be included?

* Tested on Swanky with Kubuntu 17.04 (4.10.0-21-generic).

Thanks Taylor, I was made aware of this PPA last week and need to do some testing myself on my CB. If all is well, I'll add it to this script, I'm sure this will help a lot of CB/Linux users.

Any chance you ever got back around to working on this? I've been on Ubuntu 16 LTS for several years and finally decided to upgrade to 20...only to realize audio doesn't work anymore. Still love my Toshiba Chromebook - can't beat the battery life, weight, and screen resolution.
