    Specifically, the following features now work better: filename expansion, getting real time and cpu time, getenv, and compilation.  This allows the Gambit compiler compiled in ANSI-C mode to properly generate C code files (i.e. "gsc -c prog.scm").  Note that a "make check" will fail because many features of Gambit cannot be implemented in pure ANSI-C (such as creating directories, starting subprocesses, networking, preemptive threading, etc).  Try "make -i check" to verify that most tests pass.
