Hi, please can you make a new patchwork pub link. Thanks very much, and keep up the amazing work! :)

Have updated the invite code now. But I suspect the reason it wasn't working was something else. Did you manage to get it working?

pub link not working.

An error occured while attempting to redeem invite. The pub server may be unavailable or the invite code may have expired.

Right now this is pretty complicated. You have to run a special pub. I shut mine down because it was using too much bandwidth for my VPS.

I'm currently rewriting ferment to be able to work with standard ssb pubs. Then you'll just be able to use something like ssb-easy-pub and leverage all of the existing pubs.

@mmckegg -

Are you still working on this rewrite?

I'm looking to get something like this working.

The fate of this project will be decided tomorrow!

I've done a lot of thought about how to solve the issues of the prototype, but haven't actually implemented anything yet.

The biggest issues (that I haven't figured out how to solve yet)

  • WebTorrent CPU usage (could be solved by just using ordinary bittorrent or switching to dat)
  • The long-tail (how do we keep less listened to music available for on-demand streaming?)

Some things I have figured out (but haven't done):

  • make ferment use standard ssb pubs (instead of having to run custom code)
  • scale out user interface to larger datasets (currently loads everything into ram, should be rewritten with patchcore)

I'm in the #soundcloud room in ssb now. Hopefully will see what the decision is there.

I think a call to arms on some of the electronic music subreddits could get traction. I post on a few of them occasionally and feel like I could get more attention to this cause.

Good news everyone!

We've spent the past two weeks discussing the fate of the project, and have now started development on a new Beta version ( to succeed the current Alpha ). It's going to be a serious community effort and we appreciate everyone's support.

I'll keep this issue open until I have more information for when the main pub is back online.

If the short term problem is a need for bandwidth/hosting I might be able to help. Let me know.
