HOW TO BUILD

Prerequisites

Linux

(Terminal)

  • Fork or clone this project using git clone http://github.com/flamendless/journary

  • Enter the cloned/forked directory with cd journary

  • Invoke the genie build tool using genie "gmake"

    • Install it via your distro package manage

    • Or download the binary and put it in the same folder as journary

  • Invoke make command to compile and link the project.

  • Import the .sql file to your Database using mysql -u username -p journary < db_journary.sql (The username and passwords in the src/main.cpp file should be updated to reflect your local database setup).

  • Run the software using ./bin/debug/Journary

Windows

(Compiling for Windows should be easy because of the genie build tool. However there occurs error because of the spdlog library which is yet to be fixed.)

  • Fork or clone this project using git clone http://github.com/flamendless/journary either by going to the site and download as ZIP or by using the git gui tool.

  • Open command prompt

  • Enter the cloned/forked directory with cd /path/to/journary/

  • Download the genie build tool for Windows and put it in the same folder as journary

  • This step epends on the following:

    • If you have mingw32, invoke genie.exe "gmake" in cmd

      • Then you can invoke mingw32-make
    • If you have Visual Studio, invoke genie.exe "vs2013" in cmd

      • You can now open the project in your Visual Studio IDE and proceed there
    • If you have Code::Blocks, invoke genie.exe "codeblocks" in cmd

      • You can now open the project in your Code::Blocks IDE and proceed there
    • If you have Codelite, invoke genie.exe "codelite" in cmd

      • You can now open the project in your Codelite IDE and proceed there
  • After building successfully, copy the assets folder next to the .exe. SFML .dll files should also be copied alongside.

DEVELOPER'S NOTE

I will try to build an executable for Windows as soon as possible. This is not easy because I do not have any Windows machine to build on and test for.
