Collection of material for the long-term mission statement of the our community for the future of Fortran. Use this page to collect milestones for the next years to come and where we want to be in three years from now (June 2024).

  • F2018 support: Compile every open source and commercial project (that we can access) using both LLVM and C++ backends, as well as interactively
  • Compile Fortran 95 using the direct x86 backend, be the fastest Fortran compiler using this backend in terms of compilation speed (stretch goal: F2018 support using the x86 backend; add ARM backend)
  • In terms of performance of the generated (compiled) code, ideally on par with GFortran, more realistically within a factor of 2x on most benchmarks.
  • Developers: at least 10 contributors on average in any given month
