Renaming blacklist.txt to sourcelist.txt

For the love of all that is holy. GamerGate is completely incapable of any kind of critical thought, and it appears I've got to hold their hands and wipe their asses. For fuck's sake.

This is not creating a "blacklist" to keep people out of the industry, you unemployed neckbeard (if you could grow a beard) cockwaffles. It is creating a "blocklist" so normal people don't have to listen to your incoherent looneybin conspiracy theories peppered by whatever's on your political word-of-the-day calendar.

It's hilarious that you're pretending to be anime characters on IRC/reddit/8chan while somehow loathing women that kick ass and have anime hair irl. I really don't know how you consolidate that one in the barren pit of a wasteland you call a brain, but I'm sure Mr. TotalBallsack can help you with it. I hear he's got an IQ of 155. He's all class and ready to lead you lemmings off a cliff. More power to him. You are the army that no one wants but he deserves.

You can't sue anyone from a list that's generated off Twitter's API. I wish you could. I really hope you try, because it would make my *year* if I got served for the case "'HotDog Gamer Goblin' v Randi Harper". Please. I am begging you. No? Bueller? Anyone?

Literally go fuck yourselves.

Hi @freebsdgirl,

I pulled an earlier version looking to make some changes but I'm still new to git so I'm unable to do a merge. Will that mean the version I have is still a blacklist? Should I look at pulling at latest changes to avoid any lawsuits?

Thanks for all the work you do.

Poor little gator with his hurt feelings, aw little baby =[

Ch13696, I'm sure if you thought for an hour or so you'd come to the conclusion that A) You're a gigantic idiot for not realizing it's a joke and B) That you're a gigantic Idiot.

There's nothing to explain that realizing it's not meant to be taken seriously can't explain. It's funny because you idiots ALWAYS take this stuff seriously. You have no sense of irony and sarcasm, it's literally the saddest thing I have ever seen.

Of course none of this has anything to do with ethics in gaming journalism either. What a surprise GG is proving once again that they are about harassing people lol

Classic, yet pathetic back-pedalling. What is a person that threatened to rape women also brought in the "it's a joke" card? I would believe them too, based on your stupid logic.

@Crusina Wait, how am I an idiot? All I asked was a simple question. I honestly didn't know people went directly to insults on this site. Sounds childish and completely unprofessional to me. If she also meant it as a joke, maybe she should tag it as such and claim that the list should not be meant as an employment blacklist.

Been following this project for a few days.. Really, what's with all the fuss? Randi wants her Twitter feed cleaned up, writes a quickie in Perl to do it and shares it with the world. I ask again: what's all the fuss about?

I have nothing against that, but she promotes it as a tool that blocks the "worst offenders on twitter", while being badly programmed and having an extremely flawed algorithm.

It includes over 10000 accounts, most of which are people that have never heard about gamergate. It includes game dev companies, personalities, journalists, tons of real feminists and generally developers from the industry.

This is a pathetic attempt to be relevant and only shows just how bad you are at programming, design, logical thinking and generally being a shitty human being that can't amount to anything in life,

@alexaroth So lets say people use this to block the 10,000 people on Twitter. What is the harm in it? Not to say I agree or disagree with this. It just sounds like to me that the people wanting to use this blocker doesn't want to hear anything about gamergate. Good or bad.

I'm not even going to go in the technical details and all the naming/formatting conventions that are nowhere to be found in the code, but making a tool that adds all the followers of a certain group of people on twitter to a list and then advertising it as a tool for blocking offenders is just plain stupid.

@bvdwiel

Damn.. you seem to run awfully hot when someone decides they don't want to listen to a mass of people anymore. Why do you care who -and I quote- "a shitty human being" does or does not want to see on Twitter?? Heck, Randi's script (yep.. a quick script.. clean it up if you like) doesn't even block anyone. It's just a list.

Personally I wouldn't mind either if this whole childish entitled #gamergate handwaving crap went away overnight. I don't care about dev companies, personalities, journalists or feminists. I'm just annoyed that legions of verbally abusive holier-than-thou entitled cartoon characters spill over into my world, which contains a lot of tech but has nothing at all to do with games or journalism or feminism.

Yet judging from the veritable wall of hate Randi has been dealing with for some time, I get her. And she's right for standing up against this crap. So what if this algorithm works for her? Is it bad? Nope.. it works! For her! So what if it doesn't work for you or anyone else who did nothing to contribute to it so what's with the entitlement!? Where's your pull request containing your awesome anti-harrassment algorithm? Right.. nowhere. It's all just a lot of hot air as far as I'm concerned.

Now before you go all berserk on my Github repo's here, pointing out that A) I suck as a coder (which I know) and B) There's a GAME in there (which I obviously also know).. Let's just be clear on one thing. Anyone's welcome to add anything constructive to my projects. Apart from that I don't care one bit about anyone's opinion on them.

lol ok

"the naming/formatting conventions that are nowhere to be found in the code"

example?

"making a tool that adds all the followers of a certain group of people on twitter to a list and then advertising it as a tool for blocking offenders is just plain stupid"

it wasn't Randi who specifically worded it like that, to my understanding. the wording was changed once before it was removed from the IGDA's website, which is understandable. but I don't understand how that means that making the tool in the first place is stupid? or perhaps the stupidity doesn't transfer if we take away the advertising part of that argument, and I'm trying to infer too much accidentally? shrug

@bvdwiel It has to be one or the other. It can't just be a script that does nothing and does something at the same time. Also, what about the hate that Randi is dishing out? Do you mean to tell me that it is okay for her to insult other people? There's a better route she could have taken to avoid all this hate.

@ch13696 The script does exactly what it does: it generates a list. What you do with that list, whether you postprocess it or not, nail it to your wall or block Twitter-users with it.. that's 100% up to you.

And yes, I consider it ok to insult people. I do so on occasion and it lightens the heart. Are you without sin in this regard? Please enlighten me on this "better route" you seem to know about but don't reveal.

Well for one, all she had to say was that her script is not meant to block employment and only meant to clean up twitter feeds. Basically it would only condemn the companies that use it rather than the author herself. She could also clean up her post to make it seem more professional. If I were trying to hire someone to make an algorithm for me and I found this in my research on them, I would definitely not hire them. Especially with their name and picture all over the posting.

@bvdwiel Like I've said before, if you're going to use your real name on projects and public social media outlets, then you have to keep it 100% professional. It doesn't matter to me what you do with your private accounts. You want to hate on gamergate people? Go for it. In the mood for belittling straight white males? That's none of my business. However, when that is all linked to your real name, that becomes an issue if I employ you in some way.

And what about this alternative course of action would make it "better"? Randi has plenty of credentials far and beyond gaming that would make me hire her in a heartbeat. This whole steaming pile of abusive cartoon characters just goes to show she can handle a lot of heat. Honestly? I'd love to have someone like Randi cover my back at work. I don't get where the 'block employment' thing comes from. It's just a list of Twitter ID's. Show me one employer who give one flying hoot about a list that one Twitter user maintains to block other Twitter users.
