This concept is new to me. It came up on #78.
I'm opening this issue to keep that conversation here.

First of all, what is a dominant assurance contract? This paper by Alex Tabarrok from 1993 introduces and defines the concept, explains why it may be valuable (in game-theoretic economics terms), and explains how it differs from "assurance contracts" such as those currently operated by Kickstarter and many other such crowdfunding sites.
