Intro Usage and Examples Build Instructions Brief explanation of configuration file format History Intro ===== The sfubar utility is a way to create and edit SoundFont 2 files at the command line. It does this using plain text configuration files and basic audio files (strict sub-set of .wav, .aif, .raw). It can also be used to edit meta-data in .wav and .aif files. This is part of my project to convert my old Impulse Tracker modules to csound. The tool only supports a subset of the SoundFont 2 standard. This is released in the public domain. Each SoundFont2 file has one of more presets, each composed of one or more zones which map to instruments. Each instrument is composed of one or more zones which map to wavetables. For example, a .wav file with 16-bit audio is a table of 16-bit numbers. Common usage of the term sample refers to the individual numbers that make up the table. In my opinion, this can cause confusion. From here on, I will refer to the individual numbers as samples, and the whole table as a wavetable. MIDI notes have numbers from 0 to 127, with 60 being C-5. History ======= 2006-04-16 version 1 - initial release 2006-04-20 version 2 - split off libparsetxt and libriffraff components - add --wavdebug --wav2txt and --txt2wav commands - the motivation for --txt2wav was to gain the ability to add the sampler chunk to a wav file. Then I found csound only supports reading loop points from aifc files. so I did not finish it. 2006-05-08 version 3 - change soundfont2 loop type from continuous to sustain & continue - change wavetable configuration key to include file format - add support for aiff and aifc files to libriffraff - add support for reading sampler settings from aif files when creating soundfont files. - add gensine utility, used to replace sox in test script - add configuration key "byteswap" for adjusting raw samples 2006-07-09 version 4 - remove support for reading sampler settings from aif files when creating soundfont files. It was only writing the settings in the sample chunks, and omitted writing loop info in hydra. However, sfubar indexed the wavetable by the instrument number instead of the wavetable number.
