This release rebuilds the project on top of Raspbian Lite (i.e. Debian), instead of Ubuntu MATE.

Updates & improvements:

  • Image size is significantly smaller (half the size of the original)
  • Works across the whole hardware lineup (Raspberry Pi 1, 2 & 3)
  • Boot graphics are now visible for a larger percentage of the startup process (both boot & browser startup)
  • The first-boot document is now bundled with the image (so it works even when the first boot happens without an internet connection)
  • System configuration is a lot simpler with the raspi-config utility available directly on VTY2
  • Rebuild has been scripted to a much larger degree

Tech specs:

  • Linux: Raspbian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch)
  • Kernel: Linux 4.14.50-v7+
  • Chromium: Chromium 65.0.3325.181

You can verify correctly downloaded & decompressed files with:

$ openssl sha1 chilipie-kiosk-*
SHA1(chilipie-kiosk-2.0.0.img)= dc28316e1e62c14ec48a8374cc0a0c03399de924

This release fixes a packaging error in v1.2.1 where decompressing the image on some platforms would result in a corrupted file, which in turn would not flash correctly.

Tech specs:

  • Linux: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (ubuntu-mate-16.04-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi)
  • Kernel: 4.1.19-v7+
  • Chromium: 50.0.2661.102

You can verify correctly downloaded & decompressed files with:

$ openssl sha1 chilipie-kiosk-v1.2.1.img*
SHA1(chilipie-kiosk-v1.2.1.img)= 30f4a20b11ab272092a512aad192ac06de24b7bb
SHA1(chilipie-kiosk-v1.2.1.img.tar.gz)= 85cb855e4b0565486193b35c893ad5d11bd91cd1

Thanks @matthewwicks & @paasovaara for reporting unpackaging issues on Windows!

This release fixes an oversight in v1.2 where the alternate install method for Chromium left the package susceptible to auto-updating, which in turn lead to instability of the browser.

If you have a working v1.2 installation and don't want to re-flash the image, you can achieve the same effect manually with:

sudo apt-mark hold chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra chromium-browser chromium-browser-l10n

Tech specs:

  • Linux: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (ubuntu-mate-16.04-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi)
  • Kernel: 4.1.19-v7+
  • Chromium: 50.0.2661.102
