I have the need to monitor external services that do not have a valid 200-esq page I can grab. So the only alternative I could think of is ping. I used the net-ping library (https://npmjs.org/package/net-ping) which requires access to raw sockets and thus sudo access.

Just to note, you need to install the net-ping package for icmp to work npm install net-ping which didnt't install using nmp install for me
