Hi there 👋
My name is Garland Xie (he/him) and I’m a researcher who is pursuing my PhD in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto (under the supervision of J. Scott MacIvor).
The main goal of my research is to understand how to balance the needs of humans and wildlife within and across urban green spaces. My previous and current projects span different disciplines, ranging from ecology (biodiversity), data science, urban design, ecosystem services, and applied conservation biology.
On my GitHub, you will find some archived (or maintained) data and code for these projects to ensure transparency and reproducibility whenever possible. Most of them are written in the R programming language, but I’m hoping to use Julia for some future simulation work on green space design!
- 🔭 I’m currently collaborating on how smart-device data can help understand how people engage in urban parks!
