what happened with this? Does upgrading Groovy fix the problem?

Will be fixed in Geb 0.7.1 which we are working on right now.
The solution is that all of Geb's exception classes need to be rewritten in Java.
very nice. It looks like all the issues on the roadmap for 0.7.1 have been resolved. Any ETA on a release? Is the 0.7.1 branch stable enough that cloning and jaring would be unlikely to have version mismatch issues? https://github.com/geb/geb/tree/0.7.1
It was released yesterday, announced just now.
If you want to build your own, use the tag (https://github.com/geb/geb/tree/v0.7.1) instead of the branch as the branch will disappear soon.
