This is down to a fix for spockframework/spock#584 which changed MethodRules to wrap around fixture and feature methods (instead of just feature method previously) which means that the FailureTracker is not notified of failures - failures are handled before FailureTracker has a chance to intercept them.

It's probably time to write a Spock extension instead of using a JUnit MethodRule to detect when failures happen.
