BlazerTech Build Out Project MiniRack
Goal:
Build a tiny datacenter in a box. Back in the day we looked at some VXRail systems that are a "datacenter in a box". I have always thought that was so cool so I took my shot to make a small version of this.
Let's get to the Pictures:

Build Details:
- 2xUnmanaged 2.5gb Switches (1 is for vm traffic, the other is for Ceph Storage Traffic)
- 1xManaged POE 2.5gb TPLink Switch
- 4xIntel Nucs, each has 32gb of Ram, 2x Drives (1nvme for os, 1 ssd for Ceph), i5CPUs
- 3xRaspbery Pi 5 16gb w/POE-NVME TopHat (Powered by POE)
- 1x Lenovo M920q Rebuild with a 4x2.5gb Intel NIC Card - This is an opnsense firewall.
- 1x Tripp Lite 600VA UPS - This is more for protection than battery life (obviously with all this compute in there.)
Infrastructure Software (Not all Done here yet):
- The NUC Cluster is currently runnign HPE VM Essentials (it will eventually run the Community Version of this, or Proxmox) - This is my test bed.
- The PI Cluster is going to run K3's I just got the tophats so I will start this weekend on the cluster. I am somewhat knew to Kubernetes so this will be a new adventure.
- Opnsense - I am really liking this. There have been some interesting problems/things that work different than Commercial Firewall offerings but so far I am really enjoying working with it.
Application Software (A lot of this is fluid depending on what I am working on, but as of now):
- Zabbix
- Wazuh
- SterlingPDF
- Windows/Linux Domain Stack for Testing
- Internal Private Certificate Authority
- (A lot more to come here)
Notes:
Power and Power Routing was an issue. I did my best to Design and Print something to at least "mount the power" so it is still portable. I would be really careful if I was actually hauling this anywhere. I had some errors when building out the power rack equipment and decided for now it was good enough. I wanted to get this post up and will go back and work out the kinks in the future.
I put more money into this than I planned - HOWEVER - I bought my first 3dprinter just to build the mounts out and I have found a whole new passion in life. Can't believe I waited this long. Incredible hobby, my printer hasn't stopped in the 3 weeks I have owned it for more than a few hours at a time.
Looking forward to everyone'd feedback. This is a reall cool thing.
@geerlingguy - Updated please tag. And let me know what you think.
