Look at this gem: http://getbootstrap.com/examples/blog/

Maybe we could make our bootstrap theme(s) look more like this (not a 1:1 copy though), making Nikola a bit nicer and giving it a more professional feeling? Or, alternatively, re-implement it as a theme in the themes repo? Any opinions?

Theme in the themes repo sounds good at least for a start. I have this vague idea of a theme contest with real prizes and everything, maybe for v7?

👍 for the contest. Though we have some changes in our themes scheduled for v7, we’d need to push them faster and make them available as “how to theme with real examples”. Or just write a very detailed “how to create a full theme for Nikola” guide.

We would need to stop development on 6.x in order to break compatibility in trunk and go full v7 I think.
OTOH there are a bunch of bugs in v6 that do need fixing.

Themes shipped with Nikola (base, bootstrap, bootstrap3) already include the fixes (Posted:, Also available in:, More posts about %s). However, themes in the themes repo are not. We could, however, stop development of v6 themes and have a version picker at the top of our repo page.

Well, the site's architecture supports multiple versions. You can still get v5 themes :-)

I know that. That’s exactly what I have in mind. However I’d love a picker between versions, complete with a nice warning that stating that “v6 themes are not supported anymore”. (not adding one now because v5 is already dead and v5 wasn’t future-proof)

Awesome!

(It should not be hard to do, most of this theme is applying some CSS)
