org_reader: "CRITICAL: File output/index.html is to be overwritten"

I'm having trouble getting started with the org_reader plugin. When I try to create my site with pelican -v content, I get the error CRITICAL: File output/index.html is to be overwritten:

$ rm -f output/*
$ pelican -v content
-> Reading Org file /home2/hilboll/prv/Documents/web_neu/prv/content/index.org

I'd appreciate any help in understanding how to solve this issue.
