  1. not worth the effort to maintain

    authored
twitter changes its DOM a lot, and I only hit the web site when I've
uninstalled my Twitter clients deliberately. I only do this when I
want to take a break from Twitter. but sometimes I want to take a break
from Twitter but occasionally need to log in quickly to DM a specific
    person, or something like that.

since anything on the site which annoys me will encourage me to continue
whatever break I'm taking, and discourage me from making exceptions,
I'm going to call the annoyances of Twitter's bad UI useful for that
    purpose.
  2. light grey on white? admire the company but wtf?

    authored
someone was paid money to decide that blog post text should be light
    grey on a white background

one of the most interesting companies out there in my opinion. but
    this is just ridiculous.

  1. ironically this blog advocates for better CSS

    authored
this is really funny. a Microsoft platforms guy writes a blog post about
writing better JS and CSS. I read it because it's on HN and read his
CSS/DOM shit so that I can clear out the sidebar(s) and make his shit
readable. the better CSS he advocates writing does not appear in the
code for his blog. just sayin.

  1. design changed, broke my fixes

    authored
actually it looks as if the semantics changed more than the actual
design. anyway, I mostly just use Clearly now anyway (it's a
    browser extension).

likewise with their paywall. I've encountered it once, and it
seems to consist of nothing but a lightbox-style overlay. it will
very probably be trivial to circumvent

  2. scorched-earth noise removal.

    authored
in the past I've gone through much more work to get around much
worse DOMs, but these days, if I can just find the div which has
the part I actually clicked to see, I just grab that and throw
    everything else away.

give it up, quora, it's never going to happen. I'm not ever going
to sign up or log in. you're a site which tries to be a Stack
Overflow for everything but code, and where a question about side
projects rates a comment BY A GUY WHO BUILT A FUCKING PLANE below
a comment from one of your own engineers who supplies no evidence
of having ever completed any side project successfully at all.
