Use as a prebuilt UMD module

It's not necessary to install Girder web components yourself, you can import the prebuilt bundle into your page by including the following tags:

This will expose all the library's components under the global variable girder, e.g. girder.components.Upload.

Import components into your project

Girder RestClient

Many components in this library will require a RestClient named girderRest through provide/inject. The client can be provided through any common ancestor. For example:

If you're building your own downstream application, you can include individual components from the library. Because these are vuetify components, your consumer application is responsible for creating the v-app container. Read more. See demo/main.js for a more comprehensive example.

Either import the full UMD module:

Or import specific components from the src directory:

Note: When importing components from the source tree, you should import them from index.js rather than importing the .vue files yourself, as the latter is prone to break if files get moved in future releases. For example:

 import { Upload as GirderUpload } from '@girder/components/src/components';  // Good
 import GirderUpload from '@girder/components/src/components/Upload.vue'; // Unsafe -- may move in future

Files and symbols that do not appear in an index.js should be considered private and it is unsafe to use them in downstream projects since they are not part of the supported API surface.

Before you use the components, you'll need to do a little bit of boilerplate configuration to install the Vue plugin associated with this library and instantiate a RestClient for interaction with the Girder server. That REST client must be passed via provide to an ancestor component of any components from this library, which is often most convenient to do at the root component of your application.

If your downstream application is also using Vuetify, there is no need to instantiate it yourself as Girder's Vue plugin will do it for you. However, if you need to pass your own configuration options when installing the Vuetify plugin, do so before installing the Girder Vue plugin, and make sure your configuration extends Girder's own Vuetify config options, e.g.:

Use an external Girder API

To build the demo app against an external Girder API, set the VUE_APP_API_ROOT environment variable. For example:

yarn serve

This variable value defaults to http://localhost:8080/api/v1 for normal development (which assumes the developer has a local instance of the Girder API server running).
