Autoadding of pair elements is quite buggy.
First typing ' or " or any other pair char doesn't add a second one. Typing it again addes pair, so you have '''
If to do this with parenthesis it will by ( and nothing, (you can backspace it or leave it, doesn't matter) and when typing opening parenthesis again you get closing one.

Deleting of pair elements is broken too.

Using 0.9.15~uorppa0 package from PPA on Ubuntu 10.10

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with 0.9.15 and has no problem with Gemini.
Could you please tell me which version of gedit are you using?
And is this happened just after upgraded to 0.9.15?

That's odd. I fixed the bugs of Gemini in 0.9.15.
Is there any files under ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins ?

Well, I'm not sure it's from 0.9.14, but some time ago there were no such bug and now it is here. Maybe I should try older package versions to check it.

At ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins I have
betterpythonconsole
betterpythonconsole.gedit-plugin
columnmode.gedit-plugin
columnmode.py
columnmode.pyc
python_indentation.gedit-plugin
python_indentation.py
python_indentation.pyc
tabpgupdown.gedit-plugin
tabpgupdown.py
tabpgupdown.pyc

Thank you for testing, but the problem is still not solved. :(

Please check if /usr/lib/gedit-2/plugins/gemini.py is same with https://github.com/gmate/gmate/raw/master/plugins/gemini.py ?

what's your keyboard layout?
if it something like pt_br or any other that have keys like ç it will not work as you expect, it's due a behavior of Gnome, Kde, MacOSX, Windows, etc.

test in console window if the ' appears in first press, if not, you may do what I've done years ago: AVOID NON US KEYBOARS.

Confirm the same issue on Ubuntu 10.10 with 0.9.15 (gedit 2.30.3)
Removing few lines seems to fix the problem for me.

The same problem on gedit 2.30.4
Commenting out lines with toggle solves it.
