Add support for audit trail / log functionality #1701

This is a feature request to add support for audit log functionality within the application. This is important for security conscious users, for enterprise users, and for small shops who may not know why they need an audit log.

The audit log should capture when events occur in the system, such as when data is accessed and by who (important for compliance with data privacy laws), when models are changed (created, updated, deleted), etc.

While users can implement this themselves within a piece of middleware, this actually causes, as I've thought threw it at least, fragmentation of the audit functionality. This is because we cannot simply (again, I think) log the requests and responses, as those don't capture what was occurring at the database level.

A good example of the types of things that are important to companies in this space can be seen in Google's Cloud Audit Log functionality:
