  • Goldmark as the new default library used for Markdown: It's CommonMark compliant and GitHub flavored, fast and flexible.
  • With the above also comes attribute syntax on headers and code blocks. For code blocks you can turn on/off line numbers and highlight line ranges.
  • Improved and configurable implementation of TableOfContents.
  • ...
  • If you want to test this, a good start would be to build from source and run hugo server -s docs in this repo and navigate to http://localhost:1313/content-management/formats/#list-of-content-formats

  • Permalink config an dates: #6489
  • No pygments no more #4491
  • Config option for code highlighting of code fences in Markdown is now default on. This is what most people wants.
  • Goldmark diffs: angled quotes, another-header-99 vs now another-header99 (auto)
  • highlight shortcode/template func and the code fence attributes now share the same API, e.g: linenos=table,hl_lines=2 4-5,linenostart=3 (TODO fix attr syntax) where linenos can be one of table, inline, true, false.
  • The Total in ... for the hugo command now includes the configuration and modules loading, which should make it more honest/accurate.
  • The image logic in the 3 SEO internal templates twitter_cards.html, opengraph.html, and schema.html is consolidated: images page param first, then bundled image matching *feature*, *cover* or *thumbnail*, then finally images site param.
