This directory is required for the Hugo themes site. See gohugoio/hugoThemes#387

A lot of themes, e.g. single-page themes, that create a customized demo for their theme by utilizing the
exampleSitedirectory don't have a need for thecontentfolder.If
content/is absent the build script raises an error and doesn't generate a theme demo. To circumvent this problem thecontentfolder has to be made trackable by version control systems by adding an empty dummy file likeexampleSite/content/.gitkeep. It would be better to avoid this workaround in the beginning by modifying the build script accordingly./cc @bep
