go doc stops looking for a package directory at the first directory with the same name as the specified package name. E.g.:
$ go get git.apache.org/thrift.git/lib/go/thrift
$ go doc thrift
doc: no buildable Go source files in /home/ksh/work/go/src/git.apache.org/thrift.git/contrib/thrift-maven-plugin/src/main/java/org/apache/thrift
Given that if a directory doesn't contain any *.go files it cannot contain package sources "go doc" can filter out such directories during search.
