@rhysh requested issue #33855 to be considered for backport to the next 1.12 minor release.

@gopherbot, please backport to Go 1.13: this is a regression from Go 1.12.

Oops, I did not intend for a backport to Go 1.12, only to refer to the release in what I thought was extra commentary.
