https://golang.org/doc/modules/managing-dependencies currently describes how to set GOPROXY to a private module proxy. However, I expect that it is much more common for users to use the public proxy (proxy.golang.org) in conjunction with a few modules that are not publicly available.

We have the GOPRIVATE variable for that use-case, but a search of the “Managing dependencies” page doesn't currently turn up any hits for the word “private”. The Go Modules Reference page does describe GOPRIVATE, but that's probably presented at a lower level than most users would prefer.

(See https://stackoverflow.com/q/65639718 for an example of a user who could benefit from such documentation.)
