@bcmills requested issue #54468 to be considered for backport to the next 1.18 minor release.

@gopherbot, please backport to Go 1.19 and 1.18. This is a regression from prior releases that can cause build failures.

Approved: this is a regression from Go 1.17 that causes previously-valid tests to fail, and the fix is small.
