How do you tell Gollum to use GitHub Flavored Markdown? My files are *.mdown, but they seem to be interpreted by redcarpet (based on the handling of newlines) instead of by github-markdown (both gems are installed).

lib/gollum/markup.rb calls GitHub::Markup.render so I don't think Gollum supports specifying a particular markdown rendering library. GitHub Markup will always use redcarpet to render Markdown.

Sorry - I dont understand. If you cannot specify, and it seems to use redcarpet, then how can you use github markup?

Gollum relies on GitHub markup to render all supported formats. The markdown format has precisely one rendering option, which is redcarpet.

Sorry for commenting on such an old ticket, but if we'd like the GFM behavior like "treating a newline as a new paragraph", is there a way to get that in gollum? I assumed that the github-markdown gem would handle that.

Same question 10 months later.
I have no idea how to switch from classic MD to GFM ?
Thanks.

GFM isn't used inside Markup because the automatic links don't make sense outside of Github (see github/markup#47).

I think it would make sense to implement just the "treating newline as a new paragraph" modification though. GFM's code for this can be found at https://help.github.com/articles/github-flavored-markdown#code if someone wants to have a go at a pull-request.
