Mouse does not work when remote debugging Android System WebView

The article Get Started with Remote Debugging Android Devices states that mouse clicks in the dev tools screencast panel are

translated into taps, firing proper touch events on the device.

This is simply not true when remote debugging an Android System WebView (version 74.0.3729.185) and it hasn't worked for a very long time - see this stack overflow answer

please either mention this issue in the article, or see if anyone at Google might ever consider fixing the Android System WebView
