See this CodeSandbox.

Basically, inner ranges works:

{
  after: new Date(2017, 5, 20),
  before: new Date(2017, 5, 25),
}

(select 5 days between the 20th and the 25th)

but if we switch to outer ranges it will not:

{
  after: new Date(2017, 5, 25),
  before: new Date(2017, 5, 20),
}

(it should select the days before the 20th and after the 25th)

As workaround:

[
  { after: new Date(2017, 5, 25) },
  { before: new Date(2017, 5, 20) }
]
