GROUSE Subsidy is available upon approval to researchers wishing to access the GROUSE environment meeting certain criteria. The research must contribute to the goals and objectives as defined in the GROUSE protocol. You can access the latest protocol, full application and approval notice on the GROUSE README page.

GROUSE Goals and Objectives
Within the context of GPC and PCORnet, our study focuses on the following overarching goals:
- To understand the development, treatment, progression and consequences of ALS, breast cancer, and healthy vs. unhealthy (overweight and obesity) weight.
- To evaluate and enhance data quality derived from electronic health records (EHR) and claims, as well as through integration of other 3rd party data resources.
- To examine care disparities at individual, community and institution level (e.g., comparisons on access to care among Medicare/Medicaid-insured, commercially-insured and uninsured population) and evaluate generalizability of pragmatic interventions in ALS, breast cancer and healthy vs. unhealthy (overweight and obesity) weight.
- To evaluate healthcare utilization and the economic impact Evaluate healthcare utilization and the economic impact of multiple acute and chronic conditions and identify “hotspotting” areas to better inform policies for lowering costs and patients’ financial burden in ALS, breast cancer and healthy vs. unhealthy (overweight and obesity) weight.
Subsidy is available for 3 types of access:
- GPC CDM data (Ruffed GROUSE)
- GPC CDM + CMS and research falls within the GROUSE goals and objectives (Sage GROUSE)
- CMS only and research falls within the GROUSE goals and objectives(Sage GROUSE)
Access to CMS data in Sage GROUSE that is not covered by the GROUSE protocol is not eligible for this subsidy.
GROUSE Subsidy Request Process
Step 1: Complete the GROUSE Subsidy Request Survey
You are required to upload your aims page, provide a title, identify potential reasons for approval, and describe how this request aligns with the GPC grant.
Submitters who are not GPC qualified faculty members will be required to provide a name and contact information for the sponsoring faculty member.
Step 2: Site PI Approval
By approving the subsidy request, the site PI agrees to pay the following subsidy amount:
Ruffed GROUSE - GPC sites' CDM access only
- Compute costs
- $1000 set-up 1st year; 500 renewal each additional year
- $500 for compute (initial credits with AWS and Snowflake; If extensive computation is conducted may require additional funds)
- Administrative costs
- $1500 GPC Central/Honest Broker
- $200 per site
- Example for request involving 10 GPC sites
- 1st year cost: $5000
- Subsequent years: $500 plus added compute costs if needed
- Non-subsidized flat rate is $15,000 plus infrastructure cost recovery percentage based on total grant award per year for the years GROUSE is used.
Sage GROUSE - CDM + CMS within protocol
- Compute costs
- $1000 set-up 1st year; 500 renewal each additional year
- $500 for compute (initial credits with AWS and Snowflake; If extensive computation is conducted may require additional funds)
- $500 claims setup
- Administrative costs
- $1500 GPC Central/Honest Broker
- $200 per site
- Example for request involving 10 GPC sites
- 1st year: $5500
- Subsequent years: $500 plus added compute costs if needed
- Non-subsidized flat rate is $40,000 plus infrastructure cost recovery percentage based on total grant award per year for the years GROUSE is used.
Sage GROUSE – CMS only
- Compute costs
- $1000 set-up 1st year; 500 renewal each additional year
- $500 for compute. (initial credits with AWS and Snowflake; If extensive computation is conducted may require additional funds)
- $500 claims setup
- Administrative costs
- $500 GPC Central/Honest Broker
- Example
- 1st year: $2500
- Subsequent years: $500 plus added compute costs if needed
- Non-subsidized flat rate is $25,000 plus infrastructure cost recovery percentage based on total grant award per year for the years GROUSE is used.
For information on non-subsidized pricing, review the GPC pricing guide.
Step 3: GPC Honest Broker Review
The GPC Honest Broker will review the request for completeness and to ensure Site PI and qualified faculty (if applicable) approval is in place.
Step 4: GPC Working Group Review
GPC has 3 working groups: ALS, Breast Cancer and Weight. If requesting access to CMS data, the GPC working group committee will review whether the research will contribute to the GROUSE cohort goals and objectives.
Step 5: Site Review
If accessing GPC CDM data, the request is reviewed by each site selected in the request form. The site will review for subsidy approval. If the request is for CMS access only, this step is skipped.
Step 6: GPC PI Review
The GPC PI will review and approve on behalf of GPC protocol alignment, strategic objectives and subsidy.
Step 7: Submit a DROC request
Upon approval, submit a DROC request. In your request, upload a copy of your subsidy approval.
