Since our user guide (and included samples) only documents the software model plugins, someone can try our new plugins and then try to mix in model rules to configure their project. This will silently fail to do anything.

We could...

  1. Make it so using model {} at all fails.
  2. Make it so registering particular model {} rules fails (e.g., for NativeBinarySpecs)

Of course, just deprecating and documenting the new plugins would make this more of a 'nice to have'.
