The html5 protocol provides a standarized way to add "custom" parameters to DOM items - you prefix them with "data-".
I think the attribute autocomplete_url should adhere to this standard (i.e. being transformed into data-autocomplete-url). On that vein, I also recommend the autocomplete class to be replaced by a custom attribute named 'data-autocomplete', so the plugin is aligned with rails3.
i think using data-autocomplete-url would be ok, but not using the class would break a lot of stuff and make css styling harder. Can you make a fork that switches this to data- ?
I still believe that the attribute would be better changed to data-something.

pull request sent... i didn't find any tests, so i just greped for autocomplete_url and changed it.

There are no js tests, since the js is not really part of the project, just an example, but it would be kind of nice to have an example html file or something like that, so one can see if the browser-side does still work...
