I see the "main" div has the role='main' attribute. I think header and footer should also have WAI-ARIA role attributes.

It's consistent and WAI-ARIA attributes help in targeting the header or footer elements that are actually performing as page header or footers. It may seem redundant to have a header element and then say it's a header with another attribute, but the thing is WAI-ARIA attributes can not repeat (taking the role of an id) and are explicitly saying that the element is a page header or footer (remember that header and footer elements can exist may times in a single page, inside of article elements or just chilling around).

Makes sense? :)

yes!, yes! get dem ARIA's in there already! also we should have role="complementary" in there as well for sidebars. God knows they aren't used enough.

It could be argued the possibility of also adding an

but it would send the message that a sidebar is an always necessary thing (people take things conceptually verbatim sometimes) perhaps it could be there but commented?

Also Gray Ghost, if you enjoy WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles, check http://mcdlr.com/wai-aria-cheatsheet/ :) cheers!

@DrummerHead
I agree verbatim is the new HTML. Totally on board with the comment idea for sidebars

oh thanks for that link. What a great resource

@DrummerHead
Agreed, sidebar not a requirement for all sites.

Agree with adding WAI-ARIA roles on the other main elements though, been wondering why these weren't there for a while.
