MagIRC uses gettext for localization. To edit the localization files, you will need software such as Poedit.

Updating an existing localization file

  1. Open locale/xx_XX/LC_MESSAGES/messages.po with Poedit
  2. Press the Update Catalog button to make sure you get all the latest strings
  3. Edit the strings
  4. Save the file Note that due to caching the web server might need a reload for the changes to take effect.

Creating a new localization file

  1. Create a folder in locale/ named after your desired locale, for example pt_BR.
  2. Inside that folder, create a folder named LC_MESSAGES.
  3. Now copy over locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/messages.po to your new folder
  4. Open your messages.po file with Poedit
  5. From the Catalog menu, choose Settings
  6. Specify the Language AND Country of your locale, then click OK
  7. Translate the strings
  8. Save the file
