Currently the time series plot does not render if there are no observations in the selected data. It would be helpful if the plot was always produced so that, for example, you could quickly review effort even if no whales were sighted.

On a related note, the plot and map seem to treat data differently, which sometimes results in a mismatch between factor levels. This was raised by a colleague who included the screenshot below.
