Summary

lab has removed the built-in assertion library, chai. If you intend to continue to use chai you should npm install it separately. However, a more condensed assertion library named code, which is similar to chai, is now available. Code's big difference is that all assertions are functions (expect(blah).to.exist()) and it will also report to lab how many assertions should be executed in a script. This is useful for identifying assertions in your test that are never executed.
