VMWare Player is a free alternative to VirtualBox.
A provider should be added at some point. Hopefully a free provider.

Due to various legal and technical reasons, this is not possible. Legally, the way this must work is that you must buy a VMware Player Professional license in order to use the features that Vagrant exposes. Technically, I can access those features in the free version, but of course I'm not willing to get into legal trouble for that. Additionally, technically, there are key networking pieces missing in the Player product (purposely by VMware, since it isn't supposed to support that).

Sorry!

@mitchellh What about VMware Player Plus support, which is a paid version on VMware Player?

@nknganda I think the issue there was that I had no way to detect this. But I'll take a look again!

again, if someone buys a VMWare Player Plus License and buys the VMWare provider you offer, do you expect any issues when using "standard" functionality like network access, usb and a shared folder via vmwarefs ?

@fgerards I don't think the VMware provider will work at all with Player.

@nknganda @mitchellh I'm also interested in using Vagrant with VMware Player Plus. Can you take a look at this and tell if something changed? Thanks!
