Ruby Gems is superficially a similar system for Ruby as Cabal + cabal-install + HackageDB is for Haskell. This task is to do some research to compare two systems to find out what lessons we can learn from Ruby Gems.

The findings should be recorded on the RubyGems wiki page

For Python see also pip:

Some Python people have some arguments as to why this is better than eggs and easy_install.

Closing as there's been no activity in years.

We're cleaning up the bug tracker to make it useful again and are thus closing bugs that haven't seen any activity in a long time. Please re-open (or file a new bug) if the problem reappears.
