Memilcam

Memilcam is an Electron-based camera application for capturing photos, video, and timelapse using webcams on desktop.

Built to capture timelapses for a snail named Memil(see the app icon!), Memilcam is more capable than most non-snail camera apps.

See docs/INDEX.md for user documentation.

사용 설명서는 docs/INDEX-ko.md를 참조하세요.

Development

Commands

pnpm install
pnpm dev
pnpm typecheck
pnpm test
pnpm build
pnpm dist

pnpm dev starts Vite and launches Electron. The renderer depends on Electron preload APIs, so opening the Vite URL directly in a normal browser is not a complete runtime check.

Notes

  • Captures are saved under the configured save location in Photos, Videos, TimelapseFrames, and Timelapse.
  • Video rendering uses the bundled ffmpeg-static binary.
  • Advanced camera controls are enabled only when the selected camera exposes matching browser media capabilities.
  • Camera capability support varies by device, browser media APIs, and operating system settings.

License

Memilcam is licensed under the MIT License. See LICENSE for details.

Notice regarding FFmpeg redistribution

Packaged builds of Memilcam include an FFmpeg executable invoked as a separate command-line program for rendering. This is considered a separate program (rather than derived work) and is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 (GPLv3).

See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and SOURCE_OFFER.md for FFmpeg attribution, source, and redistribution notes.

Roadmap

Planned for future releases:

  • i18n support.
  • better a11y support.
  • better UI design.
  • better error handling and logging.
  • more hardware tested and supported.
  • CLI for batch capture and timelapse rendering.
