At the end of 2017 and early 2018, you couldn't walk the streets of San Francisco without hearing the whispers cryptocurrency. All of my friends were constantly checking their crypto portfolios while dreaming of which Lambo they were going to buy.
I often hold personal hackathons for myself during the weekend. I'll pick an app I want to clone and just start building. Apex is actually a partial clone of the open source iOS app Lionshare. You can read more about how the Lionshare project was born out of a Coinbase hackathon on their engineering blog.
I was initially drawn to Lionshare's minimal design. The colorful cubic charts over the black background looked amazing on my iPhone X's OLED display. The simple, clean design was so different than what was typical of other cryptocurrency apps available.
These personal hackathon projects usually get uploaded to GitHub as private repos. In an effort to become a better member of the developer community, I've deciced to "build in the open" and share my code. I encourage you to clone the repo, build it, test it, critique it, and send me feedback (pull requests are welcome). Each time I build one of these projects I learn something new. Hopefully you'll learn something new too!
Please make sure you have CocoaPods installed.
To get started, simply run these instructions:
git clone https://github.com/henrymly/Apex.git cd Apex pod install open Apex.xcworkspace/
Then build and run (⌘ + R).
Thanks so much to Coinbase and the wonderful team who built Lionshare for the beautiful inspiration.
