Issue with: Toolbelt installer (heroku-toolbelt.pkg)
Issue: Toolbelt Installer installs heroku for system default ruby version (/usr/bin/ruby -v
ruby 1.8.7 (2012-02-08 patchlevel 358) [universal-darwin12.0] )
1. Till the time the issue is resolved, Please update the documentation in heroku-toolbelt download page mentioning that heroku-toolbelt would be installed for system default ruby. And advice to users that if they are using rvm to set rubies, then install heroku gem.
2. Please provide one of or any other solution which would resolve this issue for us:
Ability to select whether to install for all users or for particular user. In my case, I had only option listed in the Toolbelt installer, install for all users.
Ability to select ruby version.
(Note: I am using rvm to set rubies, which in turn sets the path variable for the current user. So, if we have the option to install for particular user, we can pick up rubies from the path settings or from rvm list.
I have currently resorted to using heroku gem.)
@sushmanstrinity - We want to provide the most consistent experience possible with the toolbelt. Using a particular version of Ruby means that this is no longer the case, as any time you switch rubies you may or may not still have a working toolbelt install (based on dependencies among other things). By locking to system Ruby we don't have to worry about that and it should always work similarly. I can see how installing it only for a particular user may be preferred, but settings and credentials should be on a per user basis, so I don't think it should be particularly negative to have it at the system level. Is there a particular reason you want to limit it on a per user basis?
Just saw this issue!
I reinstalled heroku-toolbelt.pkg today(26 June 2013) and it removed the heroku-toolbelt that i had earlier, instead now i see:heroku-gem/2.37.2 (x86_64-darwin11.4.0) ruby/1.9.2
Not sure if this works for you @sushmanstrinity
heroku-gem/2.37.2 (x86_64-darwin11.4.0) ruby/1.9.2
I think its because my default ruby version(through rvm) is 1.9.2. FYI my system ruby version (/usr/bin/ruby -v) is still 1.8.7.
@geemus any way i can install heroku-toolbelt instead of the gem? or is it not supported for 1.9.2?
UPDATE: the same installer installed heroku-toolbelt when i set default ruby version to 1.9.3.heroku-toolbelt/2.39.0 (x86_64-darwin10.8.0) ruby/1.9.3
so all is well for me i think!
heroku-toolbelt/2.39.0 (x86_64-darwin10.8.0) ruby/1.9.3
@rubydubee - great, thanks for the update.
