this is related to #4191 ,
@stevenjoezhang I face the same issues, I also notice that you or someone already change the example on the documentation to prevent this issue back then.

Here is my idea, since I as newcomers also face the issue,
add a note on the documentation on permalinks like so:

You can specify the permalinks for your site in _config.yml or in the front-matter for each post. Is good to keep in mind that valid permalinks is should end with forward-slash (/). Therefore you can avoid encountering undesirable errors when writing your site.

I am waiting for your thought guys. do you think it's desirable from the technical side?
do you think the note is good and relevant enough?

If it desirable let me make some PR to our documentation 😊

Yes, permalink should usually end with a forward-slash (/) or .html suffix
